Come On Up

I painted my house this weekend which included stairs-just the basic white.   Looking at these images, I’m thinking I should have been more creative.

by Horst Gläsker for the project “7 Stairways” in Wuppertal, Germany

Another view of SCALA by Horst Gläsker

Gläsker painted then stencilled a word describing human relationships like passion, getting the tingles, to flourish, to fall in love.  Amazing isn’t it?

Not quite the Scala, but still beautiful, right?

How about stenciled stairs?

Have a great weekend everyone!

IMHO pure white is still the best option for painting a house (well done!), but Oh my, I WANT that white+aqua stairs! (I guess you’re still on time…)
And that white wooden floor is exactly the floor of my dreams…
    Ciao!

wow, super cute painted stairs. as much as i love it i don’t know if i could do it! scary! it would be a lot to re-do if it ended up i didn’t like it and the hubby would not be happy : ). is the kitchen almost done? dying to see it! no pressure…..lol!

  4. oh my goodness… the grey stenciled stairs are fantastic! what a LOVELY idea! i’m sure your white stairs look beautiful – so clean and fresh!

  5. Meagan says:

Those blue stairs are absolutely beautiful! And the painted outdoor stairs are incredible, it must be so fun to take a stroll and stumble upon those. The world needs more projects done like that!

  6. Piper says:

Ok, I’m all about those light blue stairs – so fun. But there’s something really cool about the full on color stairs – of course, probably only works outdoors like that – might be too intense for inside :) !

  7. i’ve been thinking about making my stairs a little more special. these images are so inspiring.

  9. ohhh i LOVE those stenciled stairs, too cute!! i’ve also seen stairs that hold books in them like a bookshelf stair, how clever!! but i think white is great, you will never get sick of it when i feel like with rainbow stairs you may eventually get sick of it hehe. have a great weekend!!!

oh, my fave is the stenciled one! how pretty.. but looks like a lot of work!

  11. Firstly, I love your stairs. The colors are incredibly soothing. The SCALA stairs are amazing. The creativity is awe-inspiring, not to mention to time and effort to create such a masterpiece. The stenciled stairs are oh so pretty!

Those were really pretty! My friend is looking for a new house. Well, actually an older/new house. We went to an open house yesterday and the stairs were awesome. I told her to stain the tops walnut or cherry and then paint the rest white…but after seeing those photos, she might have to do something more creative! Thanks for sharing and have a good weekend. I’m waiting to see pics of your updates!! :)

I love the stairs in Germany- it’s truly one of the most creative things I’ve seen in a while!

  14. Brandi says:

The first staircase is like a box of colored pencils — it’s wonderful. And I’ve never seen stenciled stairs before, but I like them, especially since you can use some simple, muted colors but still create a really dramatic look.

  15. I like the stenciled ones I think.

I came to say thanks for having stopped on my blog.

  16. Emily says:

What gorgeous stairs! But, basic white is probably good for your house and at least they’ll be easy to change later, right?

    Stopping by from SITS!

  17. Olivia says:

    wow those are just amazing!
I love the colorful staircase in the first picture :)
I bet it’s just awesome to climb those…
    Have a great weekend!

I really like those colored stairs! Not sure if I would have the gall to do it to my own (if we had some) but I think I’d be tempted.

  19. How FUN is that first set of stairs?

  20. Val says:

    Gorgeous pics!!! and so clever!

  21. Eileen says:

I love each one of these staircases! Oh that blue! Gorgeous! I bet your stairs look fantastic!! :)

  22. Dont worry about the white darling — while I was doing research on word art I came across an image of an all white stair case and each step had the words one, two, three, four and all the way up painted on in different fonts and colours, it was stunning. Another image had a poem all the way up….in time you may have the time to do something like that. The movers are here right now…ah bitter sweet days for me. Do hope you are well.

  23. I am in love with the rainbow stairs. I love Housewife Bliss’s suggestion of adding a poem or something later. Post pics if you do!

  24. LisaDay says:

The rainbow stars are kind of neat but a little to bright for me.
    Happy SITS day.

I am a fan of numbered stairs or stairs with wallpaper on the risers. It’s super cute in houses with kids!

  27. c.c. says:

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the painted stairs. dig the stenciled ones, too.

  28. Sarah says:

These are great ideas! I’d love to do something like the stair project in Germany in my community..

  29. Sarah says:

What a brilliant idea! Who would have thought of stairs as a design opportunity? :)
