Server Makeover
Eons ago I would wake up really early on Saturdays to hit garage sales in search of old, tattered furniture in need of TLC. I’d then bring them back to life by making minor repairs, refinishing or painting them. I don’t do this as often now but still find the time to dabble in projects when time permits. It’s so satisfying to see the transformation of something old to something spectacular. Sometimes a coat of paint and a little elbow grease is all it takes. If you haven’t seen my cane chair makeover check it out here.
Here’s the latest project. This little server needed a little oomph after the kitchen redo.
DH suggested I paint the body and leave the wood exposed on top. It turned out better than I expected. For painting over wood furniture, sand lightly with fine grit paper. Wipe dust off then paint. I used Behr Premium Plus Ultra Paint and Primer In One. It worked beautifully and I highly recommend this product. I’ve used this paint on my interior walls too and it sure does save you time!

By the way, I will be heading off to California tomorrow for a little R and R with family and friends. I’ll make sure to share my travels with you.

Love the combo of white paint and wood. I did a desk in the same style and am very happy with it!
Pretty, pretty. Get plenty of rest, I get the day off tomorrow, I hope to sleep in!
wonderful job. I like the white and wood effect. Nicely done. I haven’t had the guts to paint my own furniture, but maybe someday. Have fun in Cali!
that turned out great! i love garage sales and acquiring someone else’s junk, putting a little love into it and having it become my treasure. have a great time back home in California! my parents mentioned you should call them but i told them you’re gonna be quite busy visiting with lots of family and friends. i will be checking in daily to see your travels. we’re finally getting over the homesickness blues so maybe i shouldn’t check in. lol! anyhoo, safe travels!
great job! love it — so quaint and cute!
Looks SO awesome! I love furniture make-overs. It is satisfying to see the end result and its so environmentally friendly knowing that instead of buying new you are reusing something that just needed some TLC.
Have fun on your trip.
great transformation of that piece… have fun in Cali!
Love the server! You did a great job! I have a few pieces in my garage that are waiting for me to “make them over”! You have inspired me!
Stop by my blog if you have a chance!
Ciao, Kristina
wonderful work!! it looks just perfect!
What a beautiful transformation! I really like that you left the top wood piece untouched. The piece works perfectly into your room now.
I love what you did with that piece, stunning. I was enjoying your Alphabet walk and it reminded me of an artist that I can across that spells words our of letters she finds in her surroundings, it was stunning.
Great job, I’m glad you decided to leave the top untouched, it looks lovely
Love from London x
Wow, what a difference!! I love that white paint can really make anything look so much better. I love that you kept the top as wood – really looks great.
I like the change to white on the server. I recently painted my bar stools white and tried to give them an “aged” look. My husband the joker he is keeps pointing out areas of the stools and saying “you missed a spot.” What a punk, right?
beautiful job, i love this, the paint makes it so fresh and i like that u kept some of the original wood. have a great trip!!
What a transformation! Looks a whole lot better than before. Hope you are having a great time in Cali!
Magnificent! Very crafty and beautiful. I love your thriftiness and what a creative and great way to recycle a piece of furniture. Bravo.
Love it, It’s so pretty! and I love the detail on the table! It’s a charming little piece of furniture! Great find! The dark wood top is gorgeous!
By the way I left you a little surprise on my blog. Come and get it (=
just love what you have done with it — as usual. Enjoy the cool air of CA darling.
I adore old furniture. I am happy you gave this piece a make-over to go with your new place. It is sad that so many believe you have to spend a fortune to have beautiful things.
looks fantastic!!! love it
awwwwwww i totally adore this makeover! i think a fresh coat of white makes almost anything look better! hope you are enjoying california!!
beautiful restoration, i love doing stuff like this too but never ever have the time =( I also really think leaving the wood on top was a super idea–way to go DH! I hope you are enjoying your travels, share some photos =) =) I found you originally on your SITS day so thought I’d stop back in on you, I try not to SITS and forget, lol. Have a beautiful week =)
That looks great! I love the white with the contrast of the wood top. Lovely.
