Gardening

If  you’re an avid Small Burst reader you know I love plants and gardening, especially vegetable gardening. However, with such a busy work and home life, I haven’t done much of any gardening the past few years. I’ve been yearning to get my hands dirty and to finally get that veggie garden going. I didn’t think I can pull it off this year since life seems to be busier than ever, but, thanks to my wonderful, garden guru parents we now have a beautiful garden.  They’ve included my faves; black krim heirloom tomatoes, early girl tomatoes, ichiban eggplants, string beans-just to name a few.  My little lovies  helped plant their favorites too. Can’t wait to see what else “crops” up in my back yard while my parents are here. My 4 year old daughter expressed how It would be a terrible shame to wake up one morning to find that critters had feasted on her watermelon seedlings. Her solution was to make a sign to ward off squirrels.   I told her the next morning the signs must’ve worked-all seedlings were safe and sound. Her response: ” I don’t think squirrels can read.”

Have you started on your vegetable garden? What did you plant? I’m sure you’re all way ahead of me.

Squirrels are not welcome

Squirrels are certainly not welcome! How cute! I can’t wait to get gardening. We’re buying a house that has a big yard that’s pretty much a blank canvas right now. My mother-in-law is a big gardener and my husband and I have been studying up on growing veggies! I also love getting advice from bloggers!

Hi Meagan! Congrats on the house! You are going to love gardening especially in your own yard.

how exciting, and just in time for summer :) and the sign, just too precious!
I’ve been vacationing in brazil and can’t wait to get home to start gardening myself.

We do a lot of gardening. Alas, we have so many critters in our yard it is near impossible to have a vegetable garden. We’d need a sign that read “no squirrels, snails and rabbits” as all three are in abundance, they’d think we put a buffet especially out for them!

Hi Angelina. I’m so glad you found Small Burst. Yes, the google follow is accessible on WordPress. WordPress is great in that they have tons and tons of widgets/plugins you can chose from. You won’t regret coming on board. Please, feel free to e-mail me directly if you have any questions about your setup, etc. Hope I can be of help. Thanks for your comment and hope you stop by again.

Hi Becky. I know what you mean. We have other veggie garden loving critters in our “hood” too besides the squirrels. My husband asked how we could possibly keep up the garden with the chipmunks, squirrels and the bird patrol coming through the yard. We’re keeping our fingers crossed and hope my next veggie photos will be of us harvesting our crop.

  15. I love gardening!! I’m not sure when it happened, but I have become obsessed. All of your pictures make me want to go outside and plant something. Too bad its raining here again today :(

  16. That sign is so sweet – I’m sure the squirrels will adhere to it :-) We started a veggie potted garden about six weeks ago with strawberries, tomatoes, carrots, peppers and lots of lovely herbs. Due to the unusually mild and sunny weather here everything has already grown like mad! Never thought I’d manage that – I normally kill all my plants :-D Have a great week xo

My vegetable garden does not appear to be doing all that well. My pots of pretty flowers however are rocking out! :) Hope your garden fairs better than mine, and those squirrels must be smart :)
