Pending Project, Help!

I just love the shape of this chair!

I bought this awesome settee over the summer in hopes of transforming it into a beautiful prop chair  for my clients. The fabric is actually ripping and the stuffing is made of some sort of hard, yellow, crumbling styrofoam material.  Yes, hard styrofoam so the comfort level is virtually nil.  Overall quality though; near perfect-not wobbly, pretty sturdy.  I bet you were hoping for an after photo.  Sorry to disappoint but fast forward 7 months and this poor chair looks exactly the same and is sitting in the same spot. SIGH….

My husband can. Not. Stand. This. Settee.  How can you not love the lines, the tufting, that buttery yellow color?  He doesn’t have the eye, the foresight, the vision! LOL.   I dunno, it was kinda love at first sight when I spied it on craigslist (I’m an addict, remember this post?).  Old furniture?  Check.  Great lines? Check.  Great quality? Sturdy? Check and check.  Can the piece be resurrected from furniture abyss? Of course. Check! Do I have room for it in my house? Nope.  But I’ll take it!

My plans for it? reupholster it with a soft yellow velvet material?  But then after some thought I want to play it safe, maybe just cream so it goes with everything? Maybe red? Maybe turquoise? printed hip fabric?  When I see this chair there are too many possibilities (and work) that I just put it on hold. So here’s my question to you all. What would you do with this chair? What color would you chose? Maybe your suggestions and comments is just the kick in the pants I need to actually get started on this project.

P.S. sorry for the photo-taken with my iPhone:)

ooh this is lovely! I would paint it with a beautiful white {little bit shabby chic-ish). Then reupholster it with beautiful, solid light hues of aqua (linen or soft burlap..or maybe just keep the naturlal color of the fabric)!!! Oh i can’t wait for the after photo. Whatever you choose to do with it, am sure its gonna be awesome!

Hi Alely. I know I do have to get going on this. I’m leaning towards keeping it that pretty buttery yellow color too. To be continued…

I love your settee! It has such a unique shape, I would have grabbed it up too! I like your idea of playing it safe with a neutral fabric. You could always add a little oomph with pillows! Looking forward to the reveal!

I like the idea of the yellow, but I think a textured burlap would look amazing!!

Ooooh! I love this settee. I likw yellow, but painting the wood white might make the lines of the piece “pop” more. I think maybe yellow stripes would look nice. You would have to splurge a bit on the fabric though, and maybe check out the fabrics featured in house beautiful mag. Can’t wait to see after photo!!! :D
